Psionic,

AWESOME!

2 things.

1. How did you go about creating these so that the textures match up over the 'seams'?

2. What graphic package did you use to create the nice nebula/plasma effect?

Many thanks

Psionic(Posted 2007) [#6]
Thanks, I made them in Cinema 4D using the noise shaders to create the nebulas on the inside of a large sphere, I used similar techniques to this sky tut but with purples/blues etc

http://www.psionic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/c4dtuts/c4dsky.html

I also created a camera in the centre of the scene, with the FOV set to 90 degrees and the render size a square aspect (512x512) then rendered, rotated the cam 90 degrees, rendered etc etc for all 6 sides..manually ;-))

how would you make something like this but a sphere?

Check out the earth and space in this demo - cool!

@Psionic: thanks! now i dont have to keep using the cruddy ones i have been!

@Pete Carter: you mean a space sphere? you would have to make a sphere with all its faces pointing inward and texture it with the stars image, personally i dont find it usful due to the pinching at the top and bottom. also i think theres a space sphere in Psionic's link.

not so fast! The seams are visible :-(

I've tried setting the TextureFilter to 1+16+32 and it looks a little better but still some the seams don't match accurately enough for them to be 'invisible'.

Any ideas?

GfK(Posted 2007) [#11]
Haven't tried using the textures, but you do get visible seams on skyboxes if you make the box too small. Also, making a small skybox then scaling it up doesn't help - you need to create the box larger in the first place; i.e. 30x30 minimum.

This obviously won't help if its the textures that are 'faulty'. Just saying it might not be that. :)

I've tried a different spacebox mesh, one that I know is OK and still the seems are visible so it would appear to be the textures...
