OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#1]
It's a remake of a VERY old FPS game. If you don't recognize it...don't worry. Only those of us who had a Mac back around 1993-ish would likely remember...

jfk EO-11110(Posted 2007) [#2]
That's looking good, although a little darkish.

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#3]
It was a very dark game...you should see it with the flashlight off (hint: you had to do that on two levels to keep from getting mauled by enemies that were drawn to light).

BTW: Anyone care to guess the games name?

OJay(Posted 2007) [#4]
looks a bit like wolfenstein, but....all fps games from that time looked a bit like wolfenstein :D

neither wasnt wolfenstein exclusively for mac...hmmm

amonite(Posted 2007) [#5]

BTW: Anyone care to guess the games name?

Marathon ?

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#6]
Benyboy: Close...think a teenie bit earlier...

*(Posted 2007) [#7]
wasnt wizardry was it?

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#8]
Nope...remember...Benybow was very close...

Hint: Like Wolfenstein, your first weapon was a knife, second was a Walther, and third was an MP-40 SMG...

Similarity ends there.

Ash_UK(Posted 2007) [#9]
Hmm.. it wasn't erm Pathway’s Into Darkness (PID) was it? I seem to remember that being around 1993 :o)

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#10]
We have a winner! Someone give this man a cookie...

puki(Posted 2007) [#11]
I'm saying Pathways Into Darkness, released by Bungie Software in August 1993.

I claim the prize - "Ash_UK" did not submit an answer he clearly asked if it was.

"Orcslayer" stated 'We have a winner!' but clearly did not specify which answer was correct.

The answer is Pathways Into Darkness, released by Bungie Software in August 1993.

I am the first to state it as an answer and claim my prize.

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#12]
To avoid causing an argument, I hereby give Puki a virtual cookie :-P

Well Done!

Ash_UK(Posted 2007) [#13]
tut tut Puki :p

Xzider(Posted 2007) [#14]
Can I have a cookie anyways -.-?

Looks good Orcslayer, are you using regular blitz3D commands or did you do the geometry yourself?

Kalisme(Posted 2007) [#15]
wow, I've never heard of this "pathways into darkness"...
is it good?
are there any remakes for pc?
(freeware prefuribley)
I've never played the original Marathon either....
I've only played the HALO series and "ZPC: no flesh shall be spared"... erg... I bought ZPC...
I was an unhappy camper that week.

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#16]
Hey Kal, haven't seen you in a long while!

Yes, it was good but extremely hard (going to streamline the action and provide more hints as to what you are actually doing). In fact they had so many people complaining about being stuck than they hired their first paid employee (Doug Zartman, later also the voice of BoB in Marathon) to handle it all!

Marathon is excellent, please look it up!

Madcap13(Posted 2007) [#17]
If this is the game I think it is, I played it all the time at school, shooting those headless things. Twas fun. :)

jkrankie(Posted 2007) [#18]
Eek, if it's the same pathways into darkness i played in 1993, what are you thinking?

Cheers
Charlie

Long Long time Mac user.

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#19]
Madcap: Yep, same one...

Charlie: Hmmm, guess you don't like it...it wasn't a game for everyone, and a few hints about what you needed to do next would have been helpful, that much is true...

xlsior(Posted 2007) [#22]
Only chocolate chips?

You've got hundreds of other types handy right here:

dir=ReadDir(GetEnv_("userprofile")+"\cookies")
If Not dir RuntimeError "Could not find Cookies folder"

Repeat
	t$=NextFile( dir )
	If t="" Exit
	If t="." Or t=".." Continue
	t$=GetEnv_("userprofile")+"\cookies\"+t$
	file=ReadFile(t$)
	If file <>0 Then
		cookiecount:+1
		While Not Eof(file)
		Print ReadLine(file)
		Wend
	End If
Forever
CloseDir dir
Print "Cookies Served: "+Cookiecount

Yo! Wazzup?(Posted 2007) [#23]
@chwaga: Ooohhh... That one is better.
But I made sure that the chocolate chips didnt touch each other. Then it would look like you used a hole puncher.
@xlsior: I only have Blitz3D, so that didn't do me any good :P

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#24]
Lol, bringing back a dead topic is fun. I didn't want to take the time to set up 10 x and y variables and make sure that each isn't within 10 units of the other :) If somebody could give me 2000$ so i could buy 3ds max and not the student version, or 500$ for zbrush, I'd make you a 3d cookiee!! (hint hint?)

Yo! Wazzup?(Posted 2007) [#25]
lol.

deps(Posted 2007) [#26]
I feel ancient if someone thinks a game from 93 is "VERY old"... :P

The remake looks great.

clownhunter(Posted 2007) [#27]
Any reason this 5 month old topic was revived over...cookies?

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#28]
:)

WedgeBob(Posted 2007) [#29]
Hmm, not too sure how you would mod that engine to have pixel shading and bump mapping, and what not... Trying to make the Wolf 3D engine all, "DirectX 9ed" is gonna take some major thought... Just hang in there, and you'll get it right.

OrcSlayer(Posted 2007) [#30]
I never intended to mod the engine...as far as I know the original source code doesn't even exist anymore. This is a pure Blitz3D project.

However, what you see is all there is (well, I did re-create all of the above-ground levels). Until I get my own project off the ground so I can earn some money, finishing a freebie project like this just isn't possible. I have to pay my artist, after all...

Still, I hope soon I'll be able to resume work on it, even though I can't sell it.

mtnhome3d(Posted 2008) [#31]
3d cookies http://www.mtnhome3d.com
theres enough for all of you!:)

clownhunter(Posted 2008) [#32]
It was worth bumping a 5 month old topic just to say that? :/

mintybreath(Posted 2008) [#33]
Is that Marathon?

Kinda reminds me of 007 Goldeneye, but that was for the N64. Awesome game though.

OrcSlayer(Posted 2008) [#34]
Well, since someone bumped this, I'll take a moment to clear up a couple things:

Not Marathon. Was the game Bungie made right before they made Marathon.

The engine is not Wolf3D. Bungie created the engine from scratch. I created my copy of the engine in pure Blitz3D.

Still working on my own project, but I do hope to revisit this in the near future.

mtnhome3d(Posted 2008) [#35]
would be nice, sorry for bumping this.

puki(Posted 2008) [#36]
The answer is 'Pathways Into Darkness', released by Bungie Software in August 1993.

z4g0(Posted 2008) [#37]
wow, glorious old Apogee/ID raycasting FPS games come back in 3D :O!!

great idea!

Ginger Tea(Posted 2008) [#38]
i played a demo of marathon 2 durandal (sp) on my w95 box
iir it was the first pc version
it also had mr white 2 gun option which i used more than the bigger guns (still my fave from URTournament the really old one not the latest vers)

i got the marathon trilogy on an xbox mag that was touting halo 2 or 3
probably 3 but in a really rough format preview type thing

also it allowed me to play audio cd's nicely and marylin manson's first 3* cd's played out nicely

smells like children

Buggy(Posted 2008) [#39]
Ooh! Is Pathways Into Darkness there above?

Neither Puki nor Ash_UK correctly stated the answer in the form of a question in iambic pentameter ending with a preposition.

Oh, and I like oatmeal raisin.
