I'm currently working on a sniper mode for the engine, so I needed a rifle mesh. Took me about a night. It's a traditional bolt action rifle, a design that wasn't enhanced much since the year 1900 (for good reasons). This one has a heavy barrel that is used for precision long range rifles, plus a strong sniper sight. It isn't a hollywood sniper gun. Looks more like a hunting rifle, but infact it would be a very accurate gun for eg. the caliber .308 winchester and therefor an efficient range of 800 Meters.

I wonder where this would be required in a game with a low camerarange, but hey.

BTW: Polycount is 594. Comments are welcome.

I don't know about guns but that looks really cool to me. Bonzer texturing!

Nice work. I think the handle looks a little bit strange ;)

Thanks a lot! yes the handle isn't that good. Like some details as well, eg. the bolt is covered by wood - you couldn't operate it. However, the user will only see it as a pickable item in the level. And in first person perspective mode during the gun selection for a short moment, before the fullscreen crosshair mode pops up.

It also wasn't that easy to keep the polycount low cause it has many round shapes (barrel, sight, stock etc.), so I had to make some compromises. The grip handle was added as a noncapped cylinder, that's why it looks kind of broken.

Well maybe I'll polish this a little more the sooner or later.

That looks nice. By the way, I love your demos!!

Very very nice jfk :o) Although, if you had a brighter coloured background, it may make it easier to see the model properly. Great work though! :o)

This for a deer hunting game, or was this for a World War II shooter of sorts?

Thanks for the comments.

Hehe. They still use this today. Here's an example, based on the Remington 700:
The US Army is using the M24 SWS with a relative traditional stock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M24_SWS

Where the marine is using the same modded Remington 700 named M40 A3 that has more a typical sniper stock:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M40_%28rifle%29

Even for the civil version you may buy a sniper stock, like these: http://www.thecountryshed.com/stocks_remington.htm

If money doesn't matter then I'd rather suggest to "use" the new "Lapua .338 Magnum" caliber with a range around 1000 Meters. like eg. the Sako TRG-42: http://www.impactguns.com/store/082442805078.html

I just see somebody is already creating a Sako mesh for a HL2 mod, here: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=85965

And that's also why I tell you things about weapons IRL. It may be useful when you create FPS etc. shooter games.

The game I am working on plays in the present btw.
