I'm been making a tree for a while and finally got the leaf detail on top of the tree

seferey(Posted 2005) [#2]

I made this in Milkshape 3D

LarsG(Posted 2005) [#3]
you could have converted it to jpg or png or something... :p

Don't want to disparage your work, I use Milkshape myself and I know what a pain it can be to do simply things.

Can I recommend that you look at some of the tree generating software which specialises in doing this job(check out the toolbox etc) - that's of course if you want a life. ;-)

1.5MB image!!! Do as LarsG says and convert to .jpg or .png before posting, please. Those formats were invented for a reason! ;)

OUCH!

The image was to big, my internetcable is broken.

OUCH!

I saw the tree, I'm blinded.

My advice: Search for the tree software, John already recommended...

The trunk is ok although it could use some tapering, the leaves are not good though, the shape is too "perfect". My advice: Keep at it, modelling a trees is a good way to learn modelling as they are both simple yet organic, and always useful to have in the collection.

The tree making programs out there will increase your texture collection, but they are far from perfect in terms of the meshes themselves and many have mistakes or structure the mesh in a multi-surface format thus increasing the rendering overhead far more than necessary.

To be honest i'm yet to see a tree generation program that produces anything better than an amateur result so you are better off learning to model them for best results. However i'm not preaching from the same book I use here, I bought a tree program so I use it to save time - although I do often still tinker with them in a modeller before final use.

Yeah .. change it to a png. 1.5meg dowload for a picture of a tree ... behave!!

I think it looks good, and can envision this type of graphics in a platformer game..

I don't like those tree generating softwares myself, although that might be why I've never created anything worth while :)

delete thread

cmon sefery, don't be so sensible. The tree is not bad and for a first tree is't pretty good. People aound here tend to compare things with professional stuff.

I agree, it's hard work to create a tree with milkshape. Personally I would also use a Tree generating tool, this will save you a lot of time you can use for the map, furniture etc. that cannot be automatized.

I'm not sure, but when seferey says "delete thread" (which he does alot) I think he means "delete post".
