The Challenge is simple, create a creature, I said animal but anything will do, this includes any creature type things or alien dogs you might want to try out.

Polly count around the 2k mark, polly = triangles.

You can texture it if you like, but you dont have to.

Good luck all.

Why is this here?

Isn't there one already going until Jan 3rd?

Edit: Oh I see you were the winner last time. OK,... then why is the OTHER one there? I guess this one is the proper one.

Paul "Taiphoz"(Posted 2004) [#3]
I didnt see the other one, whats the topic ?

And yeah I only just noticed that I had won so I posted this, so didnt know some one posted one already.

So come on show us your wee creatures. :)

Topic a little obscure.

Well lets finish yours off first then ION, then drop in a link to this thread and start this one ..

Ruz(Posted 2005) [#6]

hmm sorry its a bit high poly, but I thought I would show it anyway. did this a few years ago now

Ruz(Posted 2005) [#7]
low poly sheep for my current demo

Bob3d(Posted 2005) [#8]
nice...

wizzlefish(Posted 2005) [#9]
Well, Jan. 3 just passed!

cermit(Posted 2005) [#10]
ok this model is done.

Polycount 644

sswift(Posted 2005) [#11]
I thought the point of these contests was to actually post the meshes once they were completed so that people could make use of them with Blitz for noncommercial purpouses?

Actually I thought it would have been nice if these contests were to produce objects people could make use of however they wanted because there's just not a lot of free content out there to use. But people were bashing Halo in the first contest he startted for the crates because they thought he was just asking people to do it so he would have crates for his game.

Ruz:
Nice hippo.

There are lots of free stuff out there.

Opto:
Yes, but not enough. :-)

And there _IS_ lots of free stuff out there. :-)

ICECAP(Posted 2005) [#14]
Lots of free stuff, yes. But do the words "Free Stuff" mean quality?

wizzlefish(Posted 2005) [#15]
Yeah. Maybe someone should create a Blitz vault with all the resources Blitzers have made. I'd gladly do that, for my website. I'll create a whole section called "Resources" and a page for each contributor or something.

If anyone would be able to get me lots and lots of links I'd gladly do this. This way, all good resources for Blitz can be in one place, not all over the internet.

cermit(Posted 2005) [#16]
Yeah, it'd be great to have one place with lots of 3D models and stuff (with good b3d compatility).

wizzlefish(Posted 2005) [#17]
OK, I've made a thread about it. Although I've only got one reply. :(

JoshK(Posted 2005) [#18]
I've got a vault with all the quality free content out there:
HERE IT IS.

You pay if you want quality.

What about OctaneDigitalStudios?
What about No Enemies?
What about TurboSquid?
What about Psionic?
...and the list goes on...

JoshK(Posted 2005) [#20]
Sucks, sucks, sucks, and...sucks.

Well Psionic's stuff is okay, if you are making a game with a ninja, a German Shepherd, a zombie, and a Ferrari.

sswift(Posted 2005) [#21]
Halo's stuff is okay...

If you are making a game with sentient WWII guns that shoot themselves.

Ps:
3D Cafe has quite a few good models, but the texturing sucks on them all and the thumbnails are so small it's hard to tell if you're downloading something good or bad.

_PJ_(Posted 2005) [#22]
There will never be 'enough' content out there, unless it's custom-made, because everyone's games are different and everyone wants different looking models.

Even if you said 'I'm looking for a 'dog' mesh', there are still so many potential varieties, is it a angry-looking bulldog, a sleek greyhound, a cartoony, disproportionate cuddly thing, a basic 4-legged blob with a wet nose and floppy ears???

The meshes need to suit the game, and therefore need to be individual as such.

cermit(Posted 2005) [#23]
The modeling competitions seem pretty dead, there is no interest or whatever. And some people have gone to the "other side" (Blitzmax) and probaly don't hang around here very much. Seems like Yavin is one of them hehe. I hope the competition will get more.. uhm filled with competitors in the future.

Malice: True, was thinking the same thing.

Ion-Storm(Posted 2005) [#24]
I like the idea of a media Vault
Sorta code archive for Media.
What u lot think
Ive got quite afew models and textures Ive done for stuff and would be happy to give away.
regards.
Ion.

Mustang(Posted 2005) [#25]
Problem with "free stuff collections" is that they never ever match in quality, style or polygon usage etc... you won't be able to make a coherent looking game that way.

And if someone makes a themed collection like Halo's nice wwII weapons they are good basically just for wwII games - and because they are a themed pack it is too valuable to give away for free... there is no free lunch, basically.

wizzlefish(Posted 2005) [#26]
Ion - e-mail me some links of your stuff.
