hi i'm new at modeling i started yesterday with a ship model
but i don't know how to texture it properly, i would like aply a big bitmap as a complete skin like the models for fps shooters
how can i do that?

check out www.unwrap3d.com .. the best low-cost tool for unwrapping UV-coordinates in my opinion ^^

You need to create a UV map for your object. I don't know if your modeller supports this, but most professional 3D packages like 3DMax or Maya have UV-editors. Or you can use specialized packages like Ultimate Unwrap 3D. Anyway. Once you have your UV-mapping, you can use it as a base to draw on in a 2D graphics package like Photoshop. Or you can directly draw on it in 3D with packages like DeepPaint or Tattoo and the like.
