What types of shadows are better visuamente for a project?

My father says that soft shadows are more realistic and have greater group contained in the gpu , however harsh shadows are only visible on the international space station.

As you prefer...

I like the shadows in screenshot 2 (slightly blurred, but not too much).

Realistic shadows are usually slightly blurred (no sharp edges)

Slightly blurred shadows also allows you to use low details casters, which is a good thing.

However the blurring of the shadows must take some time, so consider that.

I agree with RemiD

The second screenshot looks better and more realistic than the others.

I'd go for the first for its intensity.
A bit too much blur on the second, not enough on the first
IMHO, The 3rd is not good at all (too bright, too much blur)

Shadows are always blurred due to the wavelike properties of light.

Given that there will always be limitations on the realism of videogame graphics, and that rendering/process time is often the offset to balance against aesthetic appearance, I would also agree that #2 is the preferable option.

It depends on the light source. Shadows of the sun are rather sharp, but a big lightbulb causes soft edges due to partial overshooting.

I wouldn't worry too much. Selfshadowing seems more important to me, and imagine an NPC, walking trough complete shadow, must turn dark, which adds much to the realism when you suddently see only his dark silhouette.
