Still in Beta at the moment, but it's very photoshop like, cross platform and pretty damned good.

There are a few minor UI issues but it has got some good ideas in it (the workspaces with lockable tool windows for one).

Looks nice. I don't think I would pay for an image editor though (obviously, because I'm no artist).
+1 for cross-platform support.

Just a warning that this thing is developed really slowly. It has been in beta since almost forever now, and I'm not convinced about 1.0 coming out soon (it was supposed to be at the end of last month.)

The betas are not exactly stable. Here's hoping he gets a real 1.0 out soon.

Its been in beta for about 4 years :/

I was originally attracted to it for the nested windows but dont be fooled, gimp is much better from what i can gather. Now I have got used to the separate windows i realised its actually quite a nice way of working and has a lot of advantages over the nested windows (as does vice versa).
