I'm kinda lost here, could anyone give me a STEP-BY-STEP-THIS-GUY'S-A-COMPLETE-N00B procedure to lightmapping in max and exporting to the .b3d format. I'd mega-hugely appreciate it and be less of a complete n00b :).

anybody???

After an intensive search (4 minutes) with google :
3ds max + lightmap + baking

Google give me :

http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/rendering/bake3d/
http://fordy.planetunreal.gamespy.com/gradientssmeshtutorials/1.html
http://www.translucency.com/araya/

Stupid question : Do you take a look under 3DS max chm help ?

hopefully this will work, thanks for your 4 minutes. And what's chm stand for (no, I suppose)?

Filax(Posted 2007) [#5]
No problem chwaga :) I don't understand your question about max help ?

I'd use the bakersfield scripts by chuggnut. makes setting scenes up much easier than max's own baking tools.

Compiled Help Manual. It's a document format which help files often come in.

I used to work with chuggnut:)

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#9]
chuggnut...name rings a bell....?

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#10]
how do i use chuggnut and export to .b3d??

you use bakersfield to make lightmapping in max easier. B3D pipeline won't work with max 9 and I havent used B3D in over a year.

Adding lightmaps in B3D pipeline is simple, you just add an extra texture layer with the lightmap on, and set your blendmodes. B3D pipeline has its own Max material type that supports most if not all B3D fixed function material functions.

The only alternative to B3D pipeline is Unwrap3D, which I havent used for exporting for several years now.

I use Quill3d and Ultimate Unwrap to get the models in Minib3d, the main reason for Ultimate Unwrap is that there seems to be a problem somewhere in the Quill3d>>Minib3d this is fixed with Ultimate Unwrap

The problem is generating the lightmap itself, I can never get it to line up with my UV's. How do I generate the map in max??

Another solution ? Maybe you can buy the Fredborg Giles ? IMO
the lightmapping is better than 3DS and the giles rendering is
awesome...
