I've been trying to find a set-up with the 3ds max 8 fire system that can make realistic-looking fire and explosions. If anyone could give me a preset or advice on how to do so, I'd appreciate it a bunch. |

The one thing I use for fire and explosions in 3D Studio Max is Afterburn. Its a plug-in and it costs a bit, but the effects are fantastic. I'm pretty sure there is a demo available too. http://www.afterworks.com/ |

can't find the demo anywhere.... PS: costs a "bit"??! it's 495$! Unless you're in the high-money expectations production business (which people would NOT use blitz3d for) that's expensive. On the other handle previously mentioned, the effects rok teh earth, so it's reasonably priced if used in the production business...lol, I'm using a student liscense on max, not legally allowed to make it commercial anyways. |

Yeah that is the problem with all of the high-end effects based plug-ins for 3DSMax, they cost a fortune if you want most of them. Our company budgeted on the price of 3DSMax again just for the additional plug-ins. You could try contacting them and ask if they will do a special deal as you are a student and want to learn their product. Most companies are happy to let their software go for a reduced amount for students, because it helps lock you into using it when you finally become a commercial entity. |

I honestly doubt that afterworks would go through all the liscensing trouble to let one person get a student liscence, thanks anyways though. I did manage to make this though |
