Are there any good freeware 3D modeling tools? Maybe a 30-day demo? |
| ||
check this list out : http://www.digitaldarknet.net/thelist/ |
| ||
Thanks, I'll check this out. |
| ||
blender is good and free - you just need to get used to the interface but there are plenty of tutorials to help with this. |
| ||
Does Blitz support any of the filetypes that these programs use? EDIT: Yes, they can, because Blender can export to .3DS |
| ||
http://www.cbmodelpro.com/about.html This one is like Amorphium, though I had trouble with the obj export not showing up in another program. Haven't spent much time with it yet. http://www.gastineauproductions.com/morphology.htm Haven't intalled yet. Dunno. Not free but low $$$ |

Milkshape3d has a 30 day fully functioning demo and is cheap, I know you are after freeware but for a really cheap 3d package that a beginner can use easily I find milkshape works well. I'd steer clear of blender as it is far too much trouble to work with (I've never understood interface). If money wasn't an issue I'd recommend Softimage:XSI Foundation which though cheaper than other comparable tools has a fantastic,fast and easy to use interface and is a fully featured 3d modeling, rendering, animating, texturing package. Go for milkshape is my opinion. |
| ||
I agree... I use milkshape and ultimate unwrap, both are cheap and very good |
| ||
AC3D is my preferred cheap modeller. |
| ||
I might try blender, because it says "Yes, the interface is hard, but you should still use it." It looks good, too. |
| ||
You could try my program: http://members.home.nl/bramdenhond/gamebuilder.zip With the program 'compound', you can make 3d models and save them as animated .x files. It is not as advanced as Blender or anything, but it works okay. It is a complete version, but I didn't write the help yet. However, a temp. help file is here: http://members.home.nl/bramdenhond/help.pdf |

Well, I've found some nice free 3d models, and I'll have to live off of them for awhile. |
| ||
Wings3d is pretty awesome! |
| ||
Blender is very good. Theres some free videos on how to here: http://www.blender.org/tutorials-help/video-tutorials/ (And good forum support :) You defo need to watch the getting started one on the interface because blender's is a bit... odd. (at first but great when you understand it) This thread may be interesting to you too: http://blitzmax.com/Community/posts.php?topic=70429 |

Blender is awful. |
| ||
Blender is awful. humph, tis not :P Ive tried loads of modellers and like blender's actual modelling interface more than any i've ever used including game/truespace, max, hexagon and others. -that is.. once i learned how to use it, it is very different to the others as there is a lot of hotkeys and learning needed. To be honest i hated it at first, but now after learning the quirks would happily pay up to $100 mabe more for it. I just started testing out AC3d and may use that too if i find any WOWs that blender cannot do (or are worth the extra money). Havent found one yet tho :/ EDIT: Yes, they can, because Blender can export to .3DS Dont forget .X It can export to B3d now (with new 3rd party script.. floating around this forum i believe). |
| ||
Kinda off topic but is there any way to change the isometric (or whatever it's called) view into something more like wings3d's default? |
| ||
Blenders interfase isnt Hard, its just not the same as the others, so you tend to have to "unlearn" all the stuff that you now think is "intuitive" If you've never used any 3d modeler before, then they are all just as hard to learn to use, blender just seems a bit more difficult if you have already learnt to use another one |
| ||
Well, I'm back to tell you that I use Blender now for a 3D modeller, very impressive engine but I'm still not a pro modeller :) I agree with D4NM4N, hated Blender at first, but love it now. Like I said, not a pro yet, but someday I might get to be like D4NM4N when it comes to 3D modelling :) (Yes D4NM4N, someone is looking up to you :) By the way, love your dragon! |

does blender save to *.3ds? |
| ||
yes, It can import/export a ton of types (.lwo, .3ds, .obj, .x, etc.) |
| ||
even .b3d now! "Final B3D Exporter" |
| ||
It doesnt export .3ds under the newer one. I had a prob with it at first exporting it, then I went to their forums only to find out that blender has a current problem with it, and are working on it. I was told to get the 2nd to newest one, and that should work until they can update the newest one. |

sorry for the OT here, but how is it that when I enter this thread I get a popup window "connecting to boiledsweets.com" prompting me to enter a username and password? That's not a security issue is it? |
| ||
Pepsi: I get the same popup window... |
| ||
I get it to. I think it is boildedsweets image, if I visit the image's url manually I'm getting the same popup window. |
| ||
Yeah, I know... Posted that in the shoutbox on SyntaxBomb thinking that maybe he had js in his siggy... Doen't happen when I'm not logged in, because I don't see his siggy... Me like saying siggy... Ok, back on topic, does anyone know of a good face modelling tutorial for Blender 2.44? |

Is "Softimage XSI Mod Tool" good? http://www.softimage.com/ How is it compare to XSI foundation? |
