Could someone recommend a good sprite editor?

I find paint a little on the cheap side while designing graphics... I'm looking for anything that a dumbass 15 year old like myself could use to stuff around on. Xmas is coming up, so its allowed to be pricy :)

- Thanks!

Not specific for sprites, but in my experience these two are both very good graphic editing programs that I've used extensively myself for creating sprites:

- Paintshop Pro
- Photoshop Elements

(I find paintshop a little easier when it comes to pixel-work, but photoshop more powerful overall)

(I must say, though, that that 'Gale' mentioned by Bain above appears pretty nice too)

Photoshop sucks for pixel work, promotion is a really nice program with onion skining for cell animation which is really handy. plus its made for sprite creation so it doesnt have lots of other stuff getting in the way.

I'd have to agree that GraphicsGale is a really nice program. It's all I use for spriting/pixel art.

my software is free up to 2500 pixels not so much an editor though, more of a converter:
