Number of weigths allowed per vertex?

Hopefully a simple question - How many weigths are allowed per vextex? How many bone weights (which sum to one) can I allow a user to set up on a model to export to b3d format?

Multiple bone weights. Each vertex can now be influenced by up to 4 bones, each with an
arbitrary weight. If more than 4 weights are present, the 'heaviest' 4 are used. Weights
are always normalized so that they sum to 1. Bones can still only be imported/created via
B3D files.

Thanks for the quick answer!
My older exporters only exported 1 bone per vertex, but now that I'm adding it to my app I wanted to allow as many as possible. That keeps it compatible with other game formats for game modelers.
