For my underwater game, I have chosen to get help on the art stuff. A friend of mine is very good at churning out small cartoony drawings of things, and I expect that he could quite well draw me a few nice fishies and various underwater objects.

Thing is, he draws 2d stuff :D

So, my plan here is to make an application that gets the image, and makes a flat sprite (mirorred on the Z axis to make it two sided). Then the user would simply "paint" the roundedness right onto the surface. Very simple, and useable for things like fish (for most of the fish, anyway - not the fins or eyes or such, but those are easy I think).

It would either be that or a very hard to work with editor that gets the top, side, and front and back view of an object, and some kind of colour code system for the front and back views to get where particular shapes are coming from, and then processes a spline skeleton. That one would be far more trouble though.

Anyhow, are there any programs that you know of that already do this?
