Does anyone know of a good paint program that has an animation suite with support for load/saving to a blitz 2d compatible image format? I have spent a long time trawling the internet, and all the programs that I have come up with load/save animations as either AVI's, or a layered anim format as in GIFs/Photoshop. I am currently using Tilestudio, but I find the paint side of this program to be lacking.

I haven't found one.
I save anims as seperate .bmp, use glueit to make a single file, load that into a paint program then save as .png.

Gimp GAP.
(gimp.org, and dig there for gimp for windows, download "stable")

Is the module for handling layers<--->frames as files, in Gimp.

No pressure sensivity yet (though I could have it for some minutes the other day: I expect is already there, but buggy. Will end up having it) in WIndows versions. yes in Linux.

Though, if u download Gimp (yep, gimp for windows goes now with the number that is achieving in linux, happily) u can already save as avi, provided each layer will be a frame, so to change a frame order, just change layer order. You have a nice preview command for the avi.

The one I prefer, though, is a japanese one, but has not been released an english version, and perhaps wont. Will make a new thread for that, as want Ragtag(Larsg) spot it.

Not smooth brushes, but I love its onion skinning. There was a very nice tool also in bc showcase, sprite rebirth.

one nice freebie was webpainter 1.0, but is not found easily anymore.

Like a mountain of other freebies, I must have it in some CD.

heck, I could mount a Tucows killer someday...

Best 2D animation program I've seen is MOHO. Moho let's you animate characters using bones, just like the skeletons used in 3D animation packages. It'll output to AVI and MOV for movie formats, or create a series of images for each frame in JPG, BMP, TGA or PNG format. It can also output the animation (supporting many but not all features) as a Flash SWF file. No it's not free, but for what it is, it's wildly underpriced at $99 USD.

Have a look:

Thanks for the info guys. @Smokey: Ive already dug out my Amiga bits and setup DPaint3/4 on WinUAE...cant figure out how to import/export .BMP filmstrip format. Tried Pro-motion 4.7 demo...No .BMP filmstrip output/input. Apparently version 5.0 might(??)....

I have even managed to get Autodesk Animator v1.0 for windows (anyone got 1.1?) and although it is old and good ('95/96) there is only AVI/FLI output. I will go through the rest of what everyone has suggested now.

Hey Bob3d... :D You've just gone and opened the floodgates! 1000 x thanks. We just needed a bit of 'lateral' thinking. Exellent. Job done then.
