I have just stumbled across this new character modelling and animation tool. It is still in beta but it seems to have an excellent feature set for the price

http://www.fragmosoft.com/

It might be worth a look.

Thanks

looks good!

good import on x files, rigged and with animations...seems export to hl smd...ms3d...md2....and x...

it imports all those, too...

quite good...

I'm already with a built workflow with my xsi for characters, and everyday happier, but this is of the price of cfx, and quite good ...cfx seems a bit stuck in development since many time, so it's good thing for most people....

more speed/peformance of viewport than cfx...
seems more featured
good work on schematic views...
animation in x files importing great...
well organized UI, access to fps setting at anytime, no need of a pop up or rolling menu...
all navigation with mouse, no need with keys...great...

forward and reverse play...
remove duplicate, great, some mesh fixing...
smoothgroups creation!
edge turning...great while animation, sometimes...some fixes..

hmm...don't find out how it actually lets me animate..heh, there's a manual...lol....

looks there could be interesting features...
"LockFrames" (joint pinning?)

Tomorrow I'll see..

As minimum, is a good editing/converting tool for animations...but it seems it animates...

oh, ok

just does not let edit in 3d view the anim...

but yes in all the others...

well, though this drawback, it's looking interesting...not for me, but...

you can use B key to select bones and you have to LOCK the 3D view to animate using it...

Seems like a pretty good little program with good support and and an even better price ;-)

Thanks for the link, I'll have to try this out to see if this replaces CharacterFX as my low-cost favorite for animation.
