I mean: Has anyone tried to work with it?

Is it any good?

c5ven(Posted 2004) [#5]
it's been in the CG news alot the last year or so. i've not tried. yet. but there's a forum for it on CGTalk.com that probably has alot of UI discussions. there's alot of people getting it and learning how to use it. both as a standalone, but also in pipelines with other modelers.

as for "Is it any good?", it's probably the best at what it does. which is why companies like WETA are using it.

I have it. To get a good view of it, go to http://www.zbrushcentral.com

if you want to create 2d stuff it is nice.
for 3d stuff: wrong app as it is a 2.5D app ( takes 3D data and creating 2D stuff with it etc )

We have one license here at work... great for doing organic stuff and normal maps, but it does have a problems also. I have not used it much personally so my experience with it is limited. So far LW fas been enough for everything, although we are eyeballing Modo as a possible replacement for LW.

Modo: http://www.luxology.com/

err dreamorama. z brush is ideeal for doing organic 3d work. I have seen some pretty amazing stuff done with it so far. Its mainly for really high poly work though, so you can make normal maps for your games if like.
Apparently it is a bit awkward to use though

yep, totally agree. I have it purchased, and don't like the UI, and how it works. but for normal maps, it kickass. :)

Even though, I probaly will prefer to do the hi res version (ending touches only; no one would convince me use other thing than wings or any other mirai like modeller for the 90% of the proccess)and the normal map final generation thing inside of Max(7), for what i have seen in that video tut. Heck, so simple and flexible...

Dreamora, you are wrong. You can do great 3D characters. High poly and even low poly.
