Just a quick question. I am assigning verts to bones with milkshape. I am doing this via the topdown view. I have just noticed after nearly finnishing the assignments that when i select a group of verts to assign to a bone, all it selects is the top half verts of the model. Is this still ok or do I have to re do it and select all the verts?

Here is a pick of what I mean. The top pic shows the verts selected and the ones I assigned to a bone or bones.

I use the bottom to select the verts but as you notice only half the model is selected in the top pic.

DAMIT you have to select them all. For the love of all things tedious why me, WHY eh! WHY.

You don't need to select them all, what are you going on about?

Turn "Ignore Backfaces" off.

It usually helps to first select all verts and assign them to the root bone to make sure you have everything attached to the skeleton. After that, yeah, make sure "ignore backfaces" is off (it's in the right click menu I think) and assign vertices to the bones you actually want them attached to.
