| Hi there, Is there anyone who is able to use 3ds Max 4.2 on WinXP Pro? I've got it installed, it runs, but only for a few minutes. It crashes after a while (sometimes after 5 mins, sometimes after 30mins). Sometimes it crashes when saving the scene. I think I've read somewhere on the Internet that version 4.2 is not supported on WinXP. Is this true? Maybe that can explain why it doesn't work as stable as it should be. And I don't have the money to buy the latest version, so that's not an option. I don't know if my version works on a Win98, as I only have 1 pc. Can anyone help me with this problem? |

| New PC by any chance? :) If so, do any other apps crash? I'm thinking ones that give the CPU/GPU a good workout. |

| I think I've read somewhere on the Internet that version 4.2 is not supported on WinXP. Is this true? No, that's rubbish. It's only officially supported on 2K and XP. It will run on 98se though, I've tried. I used 3dsMax 4.2 on Windows XP for quite a while until 5.0 was released and I upgraded. Never had a problem with it. |

| No other apps crash on my PC, not even when the CPU is fully loaded (100% used). I'm running a game (X-2: The threat) and the CPU is 100% used, as the framerate isn't the same always. And this game has never crashed, so it cannot be the pc. Then there must be something wrong with my version on Max. Thanks for the help anyway. |

| try deleting your 3dsmax ini file . choose software driver when you restart max |

| I've done this now (deleting the INI file) and restarted Max. Now I've selected HEIDI software renderer, and it seems to work now. I've got to try it a little bit longer (just tried it for 5mins), but for now, the program seems to run faster (?). Thanks for this tip (I had Direct3D selected before). |
