Lightwave Scene Exporter to .X

Community Forums/Developer Stations/Lightwave Scene Exporter to .X

nuclearglory(Posted 2004) [#1]
A new plugin to export your Layout Scene directly to an optimized .X file. It preserves smoothing, UV's, and even copies the needed textures to the same folder with your output .X file.

The output .x files are in the 8.1 format.

This tool plugs right into Layout and is not an external converter.

A conversion example

(Object in Layout)

(Object Exported to .X and opened in another application)

It is available from our website:

And also visible on the home page:

Any questions feel free to ask.

For which versions of Lightwave?

Does it include animation - rigid/bones?

nuclearglory(Posted 2004) [#3]
Lightwave 7.5c (or higher) and there is currently no animation/bone support. If you look at the bottom of the webpage there is a poll asking that particular question. So you might want to fill out the poll and make your voice known. :D

It's great that you're making this tool available.

I do point out though that there is a freely available directx plugin for Lightwave that exports UV and animation (rigid and boned).

That's nice. :)

Well, what advantage does your plugin offer over the existing LW plug in?

Ours plugs into Layout and saves the whole scene as a single .X file.

Ours also calculates smoothing as viewed in LW. I don't see that mentioned for their plugin.

The dstorm plugin has a component for both the modeller and layout screen. From the layout screen it will export your entire screen as a single directx file.

In terms of smoothing - if your vertices are not combined then it will export non smoothed polys.

I don't want to be difficult here - I just think you should check the Dstorm plugin out - you may be reinventing the wheel.

That's okay, we take pleasure in our work.

This is the very first plugin to look and run exactly as ours does.

ok

Give this one a try my friends.

It has been completely rebuilt from top to bottom. I converted some of the car models that come with LightWave with great success (like the T-Bird).

This one also sports skeletal animation for your objects! A bone animation scene is now included in the package.

Download the demo and give it a whirl:

Let me know how it goes.
