Is there any free program one can use to make some bones on models?

Bouncer - I have a b3d boning tool (unfinished). As long as you don't require animation it might fit your needs. E-mail me.

CharacterFX isn't free, but it is extrememly cheap ($15 I think) and is an extremely good animation tool. It even does blended vertex weights, something other tools like Milkshape don't do. Oh, and it exports directly to b3d file format.

I agree, CFX is the way to go. Especially since it supports weighted bones as JHocking says.

Jason.

Is there a tool that will allow you to importa b3d file?

CFS seems to only import 3ds files. (It can export b3d though)

Ultimate Unwrap is the only tool I know of which can import b3d files. It doesn't animate however; you would want to use Ultimate Unwrap to convert from b3d to some other file format. Exporting to 3ds would work well for a static textured model, but for something animated you'd need to export to ms3d Milkshape file format, and then use Milkshape to convert to Milkshape ASCII (which CharacterFX can import.)

Sound like a hassle? Well, sure. Why are you trying to import a b3d file?

I've got Quill3D, and it can only export .b3d or .x format

Quill3D doesn't support boning, and I'm trying to work out the best way of animating my model once I have finished it in Quill3D.

Cheers,
Phil

It can only export b3d or x file formats? Damn, that sucks. Yeah, you'll need to get Ultimate Unwrap to convert to another file format. Or start using a different modeling tool.
