From my point of view, I think it's a good pc.

Windows 10 32 bits.
4 Gigas
9800 gt 2 gb.
Hard disk 80 gb.
Celeron.

Polarix(Posted 2016) [#3]
To be honest if there is more than 10000 entities at once then it goes down to 10 fps

RustyKristi(Posted 2016) [#4]
Your spec seems slightly higher than mine but I don't have any problems with 10000 entities. maybe go back to Windows 7? What game or engine are we talking about?

xlsior(Posted 2016) [#5]
Since you don't mention any: The video card is by far the biggest bottleneck with regards to 3D games on modern PC's. Most of the onboard video adapters perform significantly worse than a decent plug-in card does.

Still chugging away here:
macOS
16gb
2.7 i7
AMD Radeon HD 6630m

...yesterday, electrical surge fried everything in my apartment, attached to power sockets..every single power supply (wifi router, desk lamp, phone charger, as well as computer PSU)..computer was not turned on, just connected to power plug trough cable, as well as other mentioned devices..i have no clue what could cause this as it happen on one floor level only..

So having said this, i think my computer is good since it survived..i really thought mainboard, hard drive and all is..history..

..never trust power grid..from now on, isolation transformer is way to go..

Recently splashed out on a new PC for just under £400

- i5 - 4160 (3.6 GHz)
- 8GB 1600 DDR 3
- Nvidia 1050 ti
- No frills MSI motherboard
- cosiar case
- 120GB SSD

Had a spare PSU (a bit noisy will replace soon) and still using my two 24" dell monitors.

Does everything just dandy, good for 1080p games and all that.

Computer I assembled in july 2015 (my previous one was from 2009), every component bought used on ebay & co, for 600€ :

Intel Core I7-3770 @3.40GHz
16Gb DDR3- G.Skill Ares
Sapphire HD7950 Vapor-X 3Go DDR5
Asus P8H77-M PRO Motherboard
SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250Go
and my old 19" LCD screen...

Still very good today, would need a more recent graphics card but I don't play much, it does the job for now.

RemiD(Posted 2016) [#10]
the computer i code with/play with is medium/low end :
DualCore AMD E-450 1646 MHz, 6go DR3-1333 SDRAM, AMD Radeon HD 6320 Graphics 384 Mo VRAM, desktop resolution 1366x768 32bits, Windows 7 Home 64 bits

Steve Elliott(Posted 2016) [#11]

Is this good?

Some more memory would be good.

Mine: Intel Core i5 @ 3.2Ghz, 8Gb RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2Gb. 2Tb Hard drive.

I'll see how good it is when Planet Coaster is running :)

iMac 27" - Intel i5 CPU - 16GB RAM - GeForce 755M GPU - 1TB HDD ( but boot off USB 3.0 512GB SSD as it's faster )

Macbook Pro 15" Retina - Intel i7 CPU - 16GB RAM - Intel Iris 5200 GPU-ish - 256GB SSD

Looking forward to the new iMac with decent GPU's, providing the rumours are correct...

xlsior(Posted 2016) [#13]
Intel i7-3930K @3.2GHz (6-core)
64GB RAM
512GB SSD
AMD Radeon RX480 4GB
32" Samsung monitor (2560x1440)

/Adding HTC Vive for x-mas

Fielder(Posted 2016) [#14]
i have a lot of used parts... (CPU / MB / ATX POWER SUPPLY / VGA)

Phenom2 dualcore (2 unlocked core using asrock unlock features) now quadcore
8 Gbyte Ram DDR3 1600 (single bank)
Asrock U3S3 Motherboard with faulty onboard USB ports (but with the SATA3 controller i need)
NO CASE (just my bench and 4 screws to prevent cats issues)
Cheaper ATX 550W power supply
Overclocked Radeon HD 6570 with increased fan speed (some noise)
Entry level SSD 120
Windows 10 (windows 8.1 was much faster)
2 27" Philips cheaper screens (to manage multiple sources and web browser at the same time)

and i can boot to desktop on 6 secs.. and play 3d games with low details.
probably on future i will change the VGA to an used Radeon 7790.
and on a very very long time maybe i will switch to an - AMD APU - to keep costs low.

RemiD(Posted 2016) [#15]
@all>>if your goal is to create demos/games which are compatible with most computers, i suggest to also consider the hardware of potential users, especially concerning ram and vram

_PJ_(Posted 2016) [#16]
It's not an absolute question. "Good" is subjectively dependent on your intention, standard or ideal.

The specs you posted (A GPU or APU variant if applicable would also be beneficial in determining capabilities/suitablility for various tasks) It is more than capable for some situations, but less than adequate for others.

To be honest if there is more than 10000 entities at once then it goes down to 10 fps

The bottleneck here is most likely the CPU processing not necessarily the GPU rendering. By which I refer to whatever manipulations are applied to those entities in the code itself. In which case, there are likely avenues for optimising.

Playniax(Posted 2016) [#17]
Main PC has 4 GB of memory, Intel Core I7 CPU @ 3.07GHz, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 560 with 64 bit Windows 10 and 512 GB SSD + 2TB HD

popcade(Posted 2016) [#18]
A simple setup that works for a few years:

E3-1230 v2
Gagabyte P75 Motherboard
16GB DDR3 Ram
3 256GB MLC SSD
2 2TB WD Red in Raid1
MSI GTX 950
Other craps

Not very good as I actually have another 2 E5-2670 server that's more powerful than it, but works at least.

Neuro(Posted 2016) [#19]
I would say mines are pretty good.

gpete(Posted 2016) [#20]
My daily computer: AMD-FX6300 six-core CPU, 8 gigs mem, 2tb HD, another 500 gig USB drives for portability, Nvidia GTX 960 graphics. I built it from new parts- is very speedy for everything- Win 10 system- "mostly ok" operating system- reliable for over 1.5 years...
It is well worth it to build your own programming, gaming computer-good experience :)

BlitzMan(Posted 2016) [#21]
Pretty much the same as gpete, apart from 16 gig mem and using win 8.1.

Steve Elliott(Posted 2016) [#22]

Everybody slags off 8.1, but boy it was fast!

andy_mc(Posted 2016) [#23]
Dual Core E5500 CPU
4 GB Ram
AMD 66700 1GB Gfx card
64GB SSD
Windows 7

7 years old.
I think it needs replacing but my wife doesn't. For what she uses it for, web browsing and online banking, it's perfect.

I want to get into VR, so will obviously need to upgrade to something four or five times faster.

Intel Core i7-4770k
16 GB RAM DDR3
Samsung 850 Pro, 1 TB
Intel SSD DC S3500, 240 GB
WD Black HDD, 3 TB

just updated with a MSI Geforce 1070 GTX GAMING X as early birthday and xmas present! :)

Hi there, here are the technical details of my laptop, purchased approx 6 months ago. ::

HP Omen Notebook - 15-5113dx , Model J9K24UAR :: http://bit.ly/2iADBGT
CPU : Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ Processor , (speed: 2.6GHz up to 3.6GHz)
GPU : Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M

4 Cores with hyperthreading enabled, (therefore 8 logical cores)
8GB Ram, 256G SSD Drive

Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, (also with Android installed in the form of AmiDuos )

It runs pretty good, (and does not run hot, like some older model I had).
The only thing is that the 256GB internal drive is already 80% full of data, so therefore I have a capacious SD card connected. . .

EdzUp MkII(Posted 2017) [#26]
I'm using a Sony vaio laptop (i3-M330, 8gb ram, win10). Also a Mac Mini, and a old eeepc :)

coffeedotbean(Posted 2017) [#27]
Currently using a Dell Optiplex 3020 I "borrowed from work" it has 8GB RAM and an i3. I put in my GTX 1050ti and an SSD and its as good as my i5 custom build was, only difference is when I am playing top end games I need to turn youtube down to 480p else it affects the games performance. (dual screens)

(the PSU died on my custom i5 build and took either the M/b or CPU with it, no cash the the mo' to replace.)

Bobysait(Posted 2017) [#28]
Working on a mac pro 1.1 (with 2 processor dual-core 2.6GHz) upgraded with 16 Gb Ram, HD 6850 and El Capitan.
Then 2 windows 10 PC for video games
a phenom II x4 3.4GHz with a GT 640 Oc (2 Go video ram) and 8 Gb ram
a phenom II x6 3.1GHz with a Radon HD 7970 (3 Go video ram gddr5) and 8 Go ram

finally, a multimedia laptop (old config - toshiba dual-core 2.6 Ghz - 6 Go ram and a graphics chipset - radeon HD 6300 mobility)
And a drawing tablet (with wacom technology) -> dual-core 1.6 Ghz on Windows 7 2Go ram

Do I need to continue with the "old" stuff ? I have still 2 computers running windows Xp on Sempron 1.8 GHz (mono-core if I remember) and pretty old GPU (like geforce mx 4000 and an ati that must be older than the radeon "HD") and a windows 7 laptop with a Geforce 7900 dual-core 2.4 GHz (it used to be a reaaally good PC -> a clevo, but now ... it's so obsolete -_- ... damned, games can't keep on requiring more and more power ...)

GW(Posted 2017) [#29]
I just put together a new one for work.
i7-7700 kaby lake oc'd to 4.9gz
16G adata ddr4-3000 ram
1tb samsung ssd
win 7 pro
integrated graphics (haven't yet migrated the gfx card (gtx 970))

HP Pavilion DV6820ed *
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 @1.83Ghz.
- RAM: Originally 3GB(1GB+3GB) expanded to 4GB(2x2GB, can't be expanded to more I'm afraid).
- GPU: NVIDIA Geforce 8400M GS.

- Storage:
Removed original DVD/RW from system into an external USB box.
Placed a HDD caddy into the now empty DVD/RW bay to fit the original 256GB HDD.
Placed a 256GB SSD into the original HDD bay, totaling storage to 512GB, while greatly speeding up the system.

- USB: 3x USB 2.0, expanded using an ExpressCard with 2x USB3.0.
- OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 upgraded from Win 7 Pro x64. (original OS: Vista Home/Mediacenter x86)

*)Was working fine and still is with Blitz, but Unity comes to a grinding halt when too many things happen at once(like something simple as playing background music), tsk-tsk.

Imperium(Posted 2017) [#31]
Unity doesn't scale well in my experience. Things that look like they are from 1998 run at like 5 fps.

Yet people run down BRL Products that do run well, but don't have a shiny clicky interface :/

EdzUp MkII(Posted 2017) [#33]
Imperium I don't know what your doing but that's not the case here and I'm on a m330 dual core

skidracer(Posted 2017) [#36]
There is a C programming book acting as base plate between the crochet and the "ono sendai 1" motherboard.

Steve Elliott(Posted 2017) [#37]
skidracer recovers all credibility from having an alleged C Book involvement ;)

steve_ancell(Posted 2017) [#38]
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
Asus M5A78L-M USB3 HDMI Motherboard
AMD Bulldozer 8-Core Black Edition (FX 8320) @ 3.5GHZ
16GB 16MHZ RAM
2TB HDD
600W PSU

Not the holy grail of systems but it's still pretty much OK.

My computer is not too bad, but I do sometimes worry it has a lack of moral fibre.
