Hello,
I would like to know if anyone out there has any idea where I may get hold of a decent graphics program that'll allow me to create 2d graphics pixel by pixel. By that I mean a grid would be shown and I can paint into each pixel, as I need pixel perfect graphics due to animation, collision detection and stuff.

Pretty much all of them, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro and Snarty's ProPixel.

Don't forget GIMP. It's free but somewhat difficult for new users to get used to.

Don't forget PhotoPaint

Dogwaffle's also worth a look. Feels like DPaint on the Amiga (dribble..)

Pro Motion - BUT it's only for 8bit stuff.
It is the uber-DPaint.

Thankyou everyone one the software to use.
I have Paint shop pro but cannot really get on with it, I downloaded a few suggestions and have to admit I really like promotion, it reminds me of my spectrum days :)
I also have come across Sprite editor, I really like this package. Hopefully it'll be on sale soon from idigicon who will be publishing it.
Once again thankyou all.
Now to graphics work :-(

Photoshop Elements. Its Photoshop, but cheap! And it comes bundled with many scanners and cameras.
