Doing 3D in 2D

Any one tried doing 3D in 2D? I don't mean using models and all that, i mean more 'old fashioned' 3D like that in Doom games, or for that matter simply 'faking it' like in mario kart (i.e. differently scaled sprites, but with a clever background) - of which there was a version done in BB2D was there not?

Just interested in how you may have gone about it.

There were several 'Mode 7' style programs made by brainy boffins with some clever use of ReadPixelFast and WritePixelFast. There was in fact a Mario Kart style racer complete with CPU racers and realtime scaled sprites.

Try looking over on Blitzcoder for it.

Try Paul René's old stuff, which rocked and does exactly what you're asking... :)

Thats because they're 4 years old.

And because BlitzCoder is no longer a website.
