I don't know if you mean in 2d or 3d since you've posted in the blitzplus forum, and most of your other posts are in blitz3d?
Simplest shadows in 3d are a simple sprite with a black circle textured on a white background which you put beneath the feet of your character/player/creature/monster etc, and multiply blend it with the object below (the level usually).
Never used any of the other shadow libs like sswift's so cannot comment on these.
giles for static lightmapping is a cheap and good tool for lightmapping your level.
