| ||
Hello, I'm looking for a paid BlitzMax programmer to take over half of my work. We're working on a 2D isometric TBS game for quite a lot of time and I've reached the point where I just don't have the time left to finish it all by myself. As a programmer you would take are of the game while I take care of the editor (not just map editor, more like a game editor that can change everything). Currently most of the code is shared between the editor and the game. We use SVN for code repositories and we would like the person that we hire to know how to use this tool. If you are interested please send a CV along with hourly rates at lorin[dot]atzberger[at]gmail[dot]com I don't care about school or age or anything as long as the cv (namely past work, demos) show that you are a capable person. Thanks. |

How much are you paying? What timescales involved? |
| ||
I'm not paying. My boss is, so financial stuff will be discussed later on. However I can say that this is a pretty good deal for a teenage geek like I was/am. The timescale is a pretty big one. From what I can tell it will take around 4-6 months to finish everything for this chapter and work will come afterwards. When I get home I'll post some pictures for you guys to see what's done. Till then to describe it: terrain is done(mixing tiles,elevations), units can be placed, in game you can move them with pathfinding, attack other units, they die, animations are done for a lot of them, there is a packing tool to keep all the files in one place, it uses a enhanced version of Max2D to take use of shaders. |
| ||
Any serious applicants will want to discuss the financial stuff earlier on and won't be interested in geeky teenager rates. Remember, you get what you pay for. I recently got some very good work from a Blitzer (-is our deal secret or anything?) for €10 an hour. Also recently trialled a student and they completely disappeared, but no cash was parted with thankfully. |

€10 an hour?! You'd expect that for flipping burgers. multiply it by at least 5 and you're heading towards the right ballpark. |

It's not C++ you know. And I don't know what McDonalds you've worked in.. Last edited 2011 |

It's not C++ you know. The language is irrelevant - €10 an hour is poor. |

Depends where you live. 70% of brazilian population lives with less than €600 a month (and in that number, several people who earns half of that are included, minimum wage here is less than €300). I bet in place like India, Korea or China, they earn much less than that - so you can get some decent work for €10/hour - just don't expect someone top-of-the-line, and extra-professional for that :) |

€10 an hour is poor, for a good programmer 70% of brazilian population lives with less than €600 a month (and in that number, several people who earns half of that are included. And if you go to any beach in Brazil its full of young kids programming their PCs. Dont get me wrong, €10 may be market rate or not. The problem I have with it, is that its per hour. Programmers should get a salary or a lump sum, not a wage. |

Still, Sanctus does say: If you are interested please send a CV along with hourly rates at lorin[dot]atzberger[at]gmail[dot]com ... so anyone interested can discuss rates directly. That's not something you'd normally discuss in public. |

£10 an hour is £20,000 a year (pre-tax, granted) and within the realms of reason for an entry level programmer. The advert specifically mentions teenagers who might still be at school as a prospective worker. It is nearly double the UK minimum wage. I didn't realise you could get £50 an hour doing the local papar round these days. No wonder Harry Perkins turns his nose up at the equivlant £20k a year job between his biology homework. The problem with hourly rates, is that the better a programmer you are, the less you make |
| ||
True, but then you can request a higher rate per the hour. £100 instead of £50. |
