Normally, I use PNG files. However, is there any reason to use PNG files over TGA files?

Beside better supported by apps and engines as it is the cleaner format, no. Its just the "more standard" format (loseless mainformat unless you use DDS)
(TGA has many optional stuff like encoding and the like and depending on the app / engine it works or simply does not work. For that reason I dropped using TGA long ago)
