Any chance of this being supported Mr Sibly sir, high chief of dark programming arts?

Not unless you get DX running on non-windows ;-)

The must be a way of getting it to work without relying on Direct X.

Yepp ... but that way is very mouse driver dependant especially if you want to use it in a game environment.

Only DX supports extended mouse as realtime input device ...

Loads of games don't support >3 mouse buttons anyway so by default I just remap extra stuff on my mouse to keys. It's no big deal...

Hardcore gamers know this stuff and as you are catering for more than 2 buttons then it's a hardcore game.

Does 2 buttons include the mousewheel button as a button. Unless your a die hard Mac person you need more than 2. Plus a lot of people couldn't care less about the mac, and may want the extra buttons in their control scheme.

5 buttons are pretty much the norm these days on the PC, with the back and forwards ones you use with the thumb as well as the mouse wheel and all that.
