I've a selection of mini tutorials and code snippets on my site, which can be found here. There's a mixture of Blitz3D and BlitzPlus, but most have been converted for BlitzMax as well. I'm pretty these have been updated for version 1.16 (taken out FlushMem, etc), but please let me know if any haven't.
