Recently I’ve been working on a project in Blitz 3D that required multitexturing in order to create detailed and professional looking terrains but Blitz 3D’s multitexturing commands didn’t let us do things properly and we had to work around it with mixed results. Basically I was wanting reassurances that when the 3D module for Max is released and I pay my money that Max will allow me to do professional looking terrains such as those in Settlers V using multitexturing.

You can do that already in Blitz3D with mesh terrains and vertex alphablend

It doesn't really give the same effect, not unless you're prepared to use millions of extra polygons on a big terrain to get the detail.
