Testing for sound card

Can the same test that was used to check for a soundcard under Blitz3D also be used with BlitzMax? In other words, can I check to see if a WAV file loads and if it doesn't I know there is no soundcard installed? If this is no longer the case, how do I check? |
| ||
Max is supposed to be able to load wavs with no problem so I dont think that would work. |

Bugger! Anyone know how to check then? I don't really want to go down the route of forcing the player to go through a setup dialogue before they run the game for the first time. |
| ||
Why? it won't crash if there's no sound card. It'll just be silent. |
| ||
Are you sure about that? The reason why I'm asking is because Blitz3D did crash if you tried to play a sound on a system with no soundcard. |
| ||
You'll have to email them to confirm it. |

Does this help... Soundcard check |
| ||
BlitzMax uses a dummy audio device if there is no soundcard so sounds can still be loaded and playing sounds will not cause a crash. |

Great. Thanks for the info. Would be nice to see that soundcard check in the official mod (don't really want to tamper with anything!). |
