There's a thread about this specific problem here.
It's basically an incompatibility with MaxMod2 and MinGW. I use MinGW distro 8.0 from nuwen.net, which works, but is no longer available there. Later versions cause all manner of problems and MaxMod2 is such a pain in the arse - whenever I've needed to reinstall my OS I have more trouble with MaxMod2/MinGW than anything else.
I've offered money in the past for somebody to take up the gauntlet and fix MaxMod2 and a few issues it has (like, setting the stream position when streaming from a memory bank), but there's been no takers. Which is a shame because it's awesome for streaming audio files.
I'm not using Blitzmax any more so that offer has kind of expired. But if you don't desperately need streaming audio, just forget MaxMod2.
