Now Microsoft has announced a release candidate for this product, has anyone managed to run MiniB3D on it?

On earlier versions of embedded 2011 I had problems using Renderworld and paintsurface()

I've never heard of Windows Embedded before, that's neat. It seems like a stripped down Linux would be more appropriate for embedded systems though, does that exist?

You can try Windows Embedded Standard 7 here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/downloads/default.mspx

I am using it with Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz / Intel(R) 945GSE which gave a large graphic performance benefit especially when using dual screen.

A couple of problems, no way of setting environment variables so I was unable to run BlitzMAX direct (still working on this) and the MiniB3D OpenGL issues as posted above.

I have installed Linux on the same platform but unable to get the same performance that WES7 gives me.
