Mac function keys for hotkeys (F5, F12, etc.)

The following keys do not appear to work as menu hotkeys:
F1-F12
[ and ]
- (although + does work if you hold the control key)

Is there any way to fix this?

it's a system preference.
goto system preferences > keyboard > keyboard and select 'use all f1,f2, as standard function keys'

you can then use the function keys normally. Otherwise you will need to press the 'fn' key first

The function keys are stupid on Mac. I have to press Alt+Fn+F1-F12 in order for them to work as function keys.
