audio playback confusion

BlitzMax Forums/BlitzMax Beginners Area/audio playback confusion

this should be my last question of the day, hopefully.
well it's not really a question. I am trying to add an audio file to my program(it's a .wav file) and I still am a little confused about ho exactly to do it. there's no clear tutorial on the internet or in blitz. I tried the simple loadsound/playsound method, but I was given a null error. am I just doing something stupid, or is my computer broken or something?

first thing is the wav file itself. Blitzmax only supports 8/16 bit, mono/stereo files. if the file is 24 bit or above it will not work.

also note that some "wav" files really are MP3 files, with a .wav extension. Windows Media player plays them without problems, but not everything will.

Note: You can try a program like 'audacity' (free) to load the file, and export to wav again. At least that way you know for certain what the filetype really is.
