This one is for someone who doesn't know BlitzMax very well but I warned you that it is Basic BlitzMax(It does Teach you on BlitzMax such all the BlitzMax Commands!) that this Book doesn't Teach you on how do OOP or Method which is a shame.

GOOD

Teach you everythings in BlitzMax Commands
It explain very well from starting to end of the book :)

BAD

No Teaching you on OOP or Method
No Open GL
No MiniB3D

** So all above on negative is the fact that the Person who made the book doesnt have time to have all those things in hence why He had TIGHT Deadline to finished the book I think.

The price of the Book is round from £10 to £15

All in All is quite good book to buy as I would give 3 out of 5 Stars.

Here what the Contents of the Book

Chapter 1 - Getting Started
Chapter 2 - Getting Know Basic
Chapter 3 - Loop, Functions, Arrays and Type
Chapter 4 - The Style Factor

Chapter 7 - Animation
Chapter 8 - Collision Detection
Chapter 9 - Handling Input

Perfect timing! I was looking at buying a copy for a friend yesterday.

I own the first edition which was for the original BlitzBasic. It was an excellent resource for learning the language.

Looks like to me that this new version is simply a quick conversion to BlitzMax.

In any case, I'm sure it is great.

I have this book for BLitzbasic and it helped me get into programming but I am sure the BMax version would have been able to help more

his Book doesn't Teach you on how do OOP or Method which is a shame.
WTF? If it doesn't teach you the basics of OOP then what's the point??

Also some of the reviews on amazon say the book tells you to download BlitzPlus...?

josk(Posted 2011) [#7]
I have not seen the book but I think its the original with the code amended to work with Blitzmax rather than a new book covering Blitzmax with oop etc.

ReKlaw(Posted 2011) [#8]
The majority of reviews cover the first and second editions, the third edition is for blitzmax. Whilst not covering OOP i still think it is a good buy for a complete newbie.

Would you know any books to teach oop and open gl programming ?

WERDNA(Posted 2011) [#10]
Oh, I loved the first edition of this for the original blitzbasic. Really helped me get started :)

(Plus it was about the only book out there that's about basic)

A book you want to try and get hold of is 'Games Programming for the Absolute Beginner with BlitzMax' by Sloan Kelly.

You will find some posts on this forum about it.
