PauseChannel() and ChannelPlaying()

Reading the BMax documents ChannelPlaying() should return FALSE if PauseChannel() on the specified channel was executed. But on my PC PauseChannel() only stops playing the sound while ChannelPlaying() for that channel still returns TRUE.
May this behaviour depend on the sound card or the audio drivers which are installed or do I understand the docs wrong ? Did anyone else make this experience ?
