I see that the zlib is included as a mod in bmax, does this mean that I can create a zipping/unzipping program and sell it?

Just cuious what the restrictions are when using the zlib as part of bmax?

Go ahead. Its opensource. I believe that the zlib liscence is pretty popular for opensource.
