Size of executables?

I was just playing around with a small program that basically just reads the alphabet from an array and spits it back out to the console (no graphics/GUI involved). I compiled it and checked the file size which was a whopping 1.4MB. Are compiled files normally this bloated??

You need to use framework if you don't want everything compiled into the executable.
