BlitzMax Forums/BlitzMax Beginners Area/the ide

in one hand the ide is very nice, fast, simple and robust but on the other hand it lacks features like auto completion, intellisence and more.

are there any alternatives ide's or plugins to work with other ide's ?

Try this free community IDE: http://blitzmax-ide.sourceforge.net/

Can't remember other alternatives, but there was a thread here somewhere about them... I'm getting old.

InDevIde: http://sourceforge.net/projects/indevide/files/?source=navbar

When it comes to IDE's you have very few choices.
There is a list here

UNZ(Posted 2014) [#4]
There is also an eclipse plugin: http://code.google.com/p/eclipsemax/

And of course there is BLIde: http://www.blide.org/
BLIde is great but windows only and not free.

I tried every free cross-platform IDE from dawlane's link but non of 'em had good code completion if I remember correct. That is why I started indevIDE.

the best in my opinios is Blide: http://www.blide.org/

BLIde is great but windows only and not free.
...but it's only €35, which is a bargain for what you get.

so far I really like the language and the compiler is fast.
I guess for now I can compromise about the current ide which is not bad
but lacking some features.
maybe in the future when I became more pro with blitz max I will consider to buy blide.

UNZ(Posted 2014) [#8]
If you don't want to pay I recommend indevIDE. It is at least better than plain MaxIDE:

What will happen is that you will regret not changing earlier to BLIde...

Derron(Posted 2014) [#10]
Last Time I used BLide was when it had a "free version" (with nagging screen when having more than 30 files).
Afterwards the .net-framework-requirement raised (and surely also the functionality).

What I disliked the most were the start up times... I like to have my editor open in < 1 second (especially if just doing some small things).

Yes, BLide has a better feature packed editor ... but UNZ is keeping improving his IDE and ... for me the most valueable pro argument is the cross-platform support.

If nobody is using IndevIDE it cannot improve - so give it a try and post your feedback in the corresponding threads.

If you then really do get along with that IDE, you can still give BLide a try.

But keep in mind - while the JungleIDE (monkey incarnation of BLide) keeps getting improved (italic style for ambiguous Function name clashes like TClass.DrawImage() and system wide DrawImage) the progress on the BlitzMax side seems to be hmm out of focus (no offense meant @Ziggy) and may be mostly bugfixes (if one reports them).

bye

Explore BlitzMax really well before you consider BLIde. Decide if you want to use the cross-platform aspect of BlitzMax. Decide if you really like the compact, non-bloated nature of BlitzMax.

Works for me :-)

Brucey(Posted 2014) [#13]
I use the default IDE. There's no Blide on my platforms - OS X and Linux, so I'm not missing anything ;-)

I wouldn't say no to something like Eclipse + BlitzMax though... hmmm....

UNZ(Posted 2014) [#14]
Wasn't Eclipsemax a project of yours?
Anyway,
you could try to compile indevIDE on Mac. In theory it should work. I can't do it on my own because I don't have a Mac.

Xerra(Posted 2014) [#15]
Biased here but I <3 Blide. I played with the old demo version a few times before I really started using Blitzmax a lot and went for the full version of Blide after actually learning to use it properly.

I Couldn't work without it now. My productivity improved massively as I was a right slacker when it comes to actually starting and finishing anything.
