Hi,

If you have a webcam, could you do me a favor..

Using something like VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org) or any other vidcap type program, goto the 'video format' dialogue (somewhere in options of the capture menu) and let me know what codec(s) it supports.

Likely examples would be, I420, IYUV, RGB16, RGB32 e.t.c
Also what Resolutions it uses.

Mine's: 320*240 I420/IYUV 115200bytes

If it specifies the byte count, that'd be cool to know too :)

I was messing with DsVideoLib (google it for info) as a means of fast capture of webcam streams but it was tempremental and required some secondary DLLs and I think DX9 installed. But I managed to get a DLL callback method working that copies a frame direct to a BB image, takes <1ms to grab a 320 * 240 frame from my webcam but I have to convert the image from webcam codec > RGB.

That's why I'm curious what popular webcam codecs are in use.

Cheers!
Tom

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Seriously though, I tried looking for the codec mine uses, but I don't know how to find it. I found some driver file names but that's probably not what you want.

I don't have VirtualDub (and I'm not interested in downloading it). If you know of a way that I can find out what codec mine is using then let me know and I will look.
