Playsound random volume

Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Programming/Playsound random volume

I have some voices that play when certain conditions are met. Somtimes they are so loud I want to toss my headphones across the room. Other times they sound ok.

Im not using ChannelVolume/Pitch on them, they are playing as is.
Playsound (voice(voiceid))

They were made with my mic and windows sound recorder. If I play them in windows they sound fine every time.

Anyone experienced this? Any thoughts?

does the same sound always play at the same volume, or does it vary each time you play them?

What file format are the sounds in? (Note that there are several sub-formats to things like WAV files, which could be interpreted differently)

Format is default .wav in windows sound recorder. PCM 44.100 kHz 16bit
stereo

From windows its always the same volume
In game its either normal or very loud. No in between volumes.

Ive got it sorted, but im not sure why it works the way it does.

When loading the sound, I immediatly add , Soundvolume(sound,.5) The random sound volume is gone.. Maybe I have a funky sound driver that requires that or somthing.

Thanks.

windows sound recorder

I wonder if WSR does something similar to MSPaint when saving bitmaps by automatically selecting the 'best' form of encoding (or bit-depth).

This may result in some recordings being of a higher/lower quality and perhaps affecting their volume. Windows Media Player is able to autoadjust sound levels, but Blitz of course isn't.
