Hi,

Just wondering what you guys do to control characters in platform type games where joysticks are used. In particular I am interested in jumps and bounces.

I favour some kind of in-step tolerance system when it comes to jumping, as most notably used in Tomb Raider. Rather than initiating a jump the micro-second you press, it waits until your stride completes, meaning you can time your jumps much more easily. This is why Tomb Raider has never suffered from the frustration factor which afflicts so many platform games. It's not suitable to every type of platformer, but how many platformers have you played that make you scream and throw the controller across the room after you failed the sixth in a run of seven consecutive jumps for the umpteenth time?
