Does anyone know if 3Ds max 4.2 can export baked textures or lightmaps as the lightmapper im using (name no nammes!) is driving me up the vertex!!!

Not sure if 4 supports baking textures - try looking on this forum under Tutorials, I think there is one for Max and Blitz.

Gile[s] is well worth the purchase to handle your lightmapping and object placement.

Max 4.2 does not support render to texture. That was added for 5. I know of a fancy script or two that could bake regular textures, but for light maps, the only way to do it is to use Luminaire, and I'm not sure if that's still available.
