If one was to make an editor that manipulates individual polygons of loaded entities and then saves them, would that be difficult (because of the format they're stored in)? |

Then it is as complicated as you want to make it. Simply loading, amending and saving a mesh is not overly complicated. Making it user friendly, powerful and professional can be a incredible task (hence the high price tag of stuff like 3D Studio Max and LightWave). |

No, that's because they're crooks! Quite. And the reason they still sell so many of the things is because nobody can / will put the time and effort into making comparible prducts at a lower price. |
