Hi all,

Could anyone with a decent Radeon test this for us and let me know what FPS you're getting with resolutions:

1) 1024x768 in and out of Projection mode
2) Resolutions above 1280x1024 etc. Whatever you can manage.

Here is the Thread concerned.

Thanks a lot.

PS: Could you post your results in the thread pointed to by the link is possible. Thanks.

Hi Lee,
I get 28 fps at 1024x768
and 4 fps at 1400x1050

i'm running an ATI mobility radeon 9600

Thanks!

Hi Lee,

Painfully slow performance in both projection and normal painting in Tattoo. Even rotating the model is less than 1FPS at all times.

Hardware in signature.

*BUT*

If I right click to copy a colour, the speed jumps to 30fps. So long as I right-click to copy a colour when it stalls, I can paint at high speeds therafter until the next change. Latest demo. What do you think?

I'm at work using a different computer than my sig shows. I am using an AMD1800+ w/ ATI Radeon 7500 video, Win2k SP3.

I am getting a solid 40fps when painting the female face.

Once in a while it will spike to 52 fps then back down to 40fps.

Hope that helps.

I've got a P2.4, with a Radeon 9800pro, and at 1280x1024 I'm getting 40fps in projection mode, 44fps otherwise.

It seems clear that textures over 1024x1024 are currently causing major headaches. I'll see what I can do with that.

@ Rob - Try unchecking the 'Force to VRAM' option in the config menu item (under Edit). When you restart, it should be a bit more stable for you.

Strangely enough, the 'Force to VRAM' option which was so vital to getting Tattoo to work quickly enough in early versions, is now causing more compatibility problems that it is worth!

Radeon 9800 Pro (P4 3.0ghz, 512 mb of 400mhz memory, via board):

Saddam.

TeraBit(Posted 2003) [#10]
Thanks for all the testing (er.. apart from the Saddam bit). Not I've got to go and work out how to speed things up a bit!

gellyware(Posted 2003) [#11]
Hi TeraBit,

I am using a radeon 9800 pro

I am currently getting 60 fps in non projection mode and 52fps in projection mode @ 1024x768 resolution.

Also, do you mind explaining how to use this projection mode? (sorry if its a dumb question.. but I dont get it)

JoJo(Posted 2003) [#12]
Firt Machine:
1024 x 768: I get 12-16 fps when not doing anything.

The fps drops when I'm painting and picking colors to 8-12 fps.

AbbaRue(Posted 2003) [#13]
I get 36 frames/sec sometimes jumping up to 40 frames/sec.
But never droping below 36 frames / sec. even while
painting and rotating the image. I loaded the 3d woman image and played with that. I am using the Radeon 9800.
not the 9800 pro just the 9800.
The pro gets:
3.0 gpixels/sec the reg. 9800 gets 2.6 gpixels/sec.
hope this helps. The 36 frames/sec I get is
very steady, did you set a frame rate of 36 or something.

Thanks for the speed checks all.

@lucid -

To use projection mode, you mode the model so that the area you want to paint is face on to you then press F8.

Although the screen will flicker slightly, the image should be the same except you can paint outside the model now.

Imagine a sheet of glass in front of the model. You paint onto the glass, then when you hit F8 again, it projects the image onto the model texture(s).

The advantage of this is that it will look as you painted it no matter how twisted your surface is, It also respects UV boundaries and stays inside the texture edges.
