exporting vertex animation?

Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Programming/exporting vertex animation?

Dear all,
Is there a way to animate the vertecies of a 3d model in a 3d modelling package and export that information into blitz3d? I would like to animate a model at the vertex level, but I can only do this mathematically within blitz and I would really like to do this visually with eg. softselection (in MAX). Is there any visual way to do this? Using 3dsmax I can animate & export scale and movement, but not push and pull individual areas of the model. What I am trying to do is create a realistic heartbeat.

cheers, Shawnus

You might be best to export to MD2. This does at least allow vertex animation. If you don't want to do that then your only other option is to export a few keyframes of the animation, import into Blitz, and do it programmatically.

Eventually the B3D file format might support vertex animation, but not today.

There's a nice MD2 exporter for 3dsMax there. MD2 doesn't have a lot going for it, but it's clearly the only format if you really do want vertex animation.

Thanks, I had a look, but I've only got Max v3.0.
Oh well...
