i need some help with uv maping, when using blenders uv maping you can use another program say like gimp to texture it but how do i do so if you cant tell what the image looks like when loaded with gimp?

dose anyone know?

Well, I’ve never actually UV mapped anything. But from what I understand, UV mapping gives you a image how your model would look unfolded. Just load it up in GMIP and paint on it. If it doesn’t give you an image like this, you could always unfold it yourself. I dont think i understand your question..

what im saying is when you load the 2d image that was 3d into gimp you cant tell what the image is, so you cant tell where to paint

Normal workflow is to bake an Ambient Occlusion pass to image and save the UV face layout (UVs-->Scripts-->Save UV Face Layout) and load these as layers in Gimp, set the opacity and use these as guides for painting the texture. I find running an edge detect filter on a layer copy of the AO map helps immensely as well.

This approach is common to most 3D software where texturing is involved.
