I've been trying to figure out why i can't get this program to put my little program on the site for eight months
[ from eight months ago....
http://www.blitzmax.com/Community/posts.php?topic=79216 ]
and I'm at my witt's end. If I don't figure out why the hell it wont work, i'm going to microwave the damn blitz3d CD, because im just that blatantly stupid and I don't know how to make it work, but I know it's for something completely obvious, and i'll be like "oh! That's what it was!".... -pause- .... *SHOTGUN TO THE FACE*

Anyways, I'm going to make one last-ditch effort to see if anybody can help spot what i can't...

This is exactly what ive done so far..

1. I got all of my materials onto one folder and tested the game, it worked, so i knew all of the files i needed was on that folder

2. I sent the file to a .zip file, where I named it "mygamelol" (the folder was supposed to be named after my .bb file, so I just went along with it..

3. once it was in the .zip file, i took it and put it in the package maker, where it turned into "osa-mygamelol.osa"

4. I took the package to my bravehost account and uploaded it along with OSAkitpro.CAB and OSAKitproplayer.exe to my files...
[ill just call my website 'www.mysite.com']

5. I went to www.mysite.com/game.htm and posted the html that it told me to post..

6. I changed the filetodownload to "http://mysite.com/osa-mygamelol.osa"

7. absolutely the fuck nothing, because it wont work.

What am i doing wrong?

slenkar(Posted 2009) [#2]
what about 'http://www.mysite.com/osa-mygamelol.osa'

lol, don't worry about it, i'll find a way to get this program to work..

I haven't tried the _very_ latest version, but check this - does work:

Gasp!
You tease!

John Blackledge(Posted 2009) [#6]
No, I don't. It works.

Here's another example:

Artwork (c) Lee Middlehurst

And the Osa help I wrote to go with it:
http://www.tla-data.co.uk/osa/osahelp/osahelp.htm

(Remember, I'm not using the latest version - I told Maher I was quite happy with the previous one I paid for, and I don't need all the new browser communications.)

i've tried and tried and tried and tried but it JUST DOESNT WANT TO LET ME MAKE IT! BAH!
I tried AT LEAST 10 times, each time slightly changing my method, but still the stupid motherfucker WONT WORK!
once again ill tell in exact detil what ive done. so yeah.

1. i took my file and took all textures and models out of my .bb file (because i didnt feel like renaming all of the paths and i starting realizing that the path changes when you put it on the internet, so if i used commands to make items that come with blitz it would just be easier to make)

2. i save my new no model/texture file as mygame.bb

3. used winrar to make it into a .rar file (dont have winzip)

4. changed the extension to .zip, so it just changed to a winzip file

5. went to the package maker and made the package osa-mygame.osa

6. opened up my web page creator and set the name of the web page to 'mygame.html', set my title to 'mygame', set my file to download to 'osa-mygame.osa' and the window title (which u didnt put in ur tut but for some magical reason it still worked for you...) as 'mygame'

7. i just skipped the whole testing part, seeing as this peice of shit WILL NOT WORK and i already know it before i even test it..

Sonic65(Posted 2009) [#8]
So wait, you made a .rar file and then renamed it to a .zip file? If so, then there's your problem. (WinRAR can make zips too; just click "Add to archive" and click on ZIP.)

Link(Posted 2009) [#9]
well, i tried it!
It loads, but then the screen just goes solid grey...
...anything else im doing wrong?

Link(Posted 2009) [#10]
and even weirder is that when i open up one of my other files i was trying (osa-mygamelol.osa) it would say that the archive was corrupted and stuff, but THEN i'd open up my file of the same name on my desktop, and the window would disappear!
it took me until just now to realize that the folder disappears because, for some weird reason, it opens the file on my html page as my game! like wtf?!

The Noob, OsaKit works fine.
So, on behalf of Maher, please don't publicly call it a piece of shit.

Did you run my examples?
Did you read the help link?

In reply to your points:

1) All filepaths should be relative to the exe, such as "images\myimage.bmp"
Otherwise it won't run anywhere except your own hard drive setup.

2) "i save my new no model/texture file as mygame.bb"
I have no idea what this means. You should have a compiled exe and relative folders, in a containing folder.
e.g. mygame.exe and media folders in 'mygame' folder.

3) Use Winzip (-no other) to zipup the containing folder as mygame.zip.

Now use the package maker and webpage creator.

Again - run my examples, and read my help link.
If you're still having problems contact Maher at OsaKit, but please do not publicly slag off software that other people are successfully using and running.

Sorry for calling it a piece of shit lolz i've just been trying to make this work since last year

in reply to your reply to my points:

1. I took them all out, because i just wanted to see if it would run, i didnt really care if it was playable because it doesnt matter how good the game is if you cant play it

2. its referring to me taking out all of the models and textures that i made in other programs that would have messed up if i uploaded it, because it 'won't run anywhere except your own hard drive setup' if i didnt either change the paths (too lazy to right now) or take them out

3. done

and again sry
