You can try Blender. It is a bit hard at first though.

Softimage XSI is great for animation (and modeling and rendering and texturing etc etc) if you are willing to spend the money on something like that. Don't really know what your budget is.

Anim8or is good too. Its quite like Blender but much more user friendly. Although this is coming from a person that wasn't able to grasp Blenders interface and moved on, and im not sure if you can use the animation from Anim8or in Blitz3D but most likely you can, I just havent tried yet.
